Our Lady of the Lakes Spirit and Joy Week

starting September 28

Our Lady of the Lakes Parish is having a Renewal of Spirit and Joy Week to celebrate with and reach out to our community. The week of events Kicks off with a PEP rally, on Saturday evening Sept. 28th starting at 4:30 at St. Catherine Church on Grandview Ave. in Lake Milton. There will be outdoor music and a bonfire around the Picnic Pavilion, and a free meal in the Community Church Hall. There will be a free Coffee House during the week, a dedication of the new .5 mile meditation trail and a St. Francis of Assisi Pet Blessing and Hot Dog Picnic. Anyone with questions about the Catholic Faith can attend our Curious about Catholics event. All events, food and parking are open to the general public and are FREE of charge. Calendars for the week of events will be available at the KICK-OFF event, by calling the parish office at 330-538-2602 or by going to our website at, and clicking on “calendar”. Remember, All events parking and food are free, open to the entire community and the week begins Saturday Sept. 28th. Hope to see you there.

Got Questions?  Get Answers!

St. Edward's Parish, Youngstown


We are offering an informal evening to engage Catholics who aren’t currently active in a parish setting as well as those who are not Catholic but would like to learn more about the faith.
Got Questions? Get Answers! invites participants to enter into dialogue around questions about the church while making connections between faith and daily life.
It will also enable those who are curious about faith to explore it in friendly company. Got Questions? Get Answers will be held at 7 p.m. July 31 in Vincentian Hall.
Facilitators for the evening will be Jim Merhaut and Carla Hlavac.

Carla Hlavac
Carla has worked in ministry with children, youth, and young adults in urban churches for over 12 years, and is currently a Consultant at the Diocesan Library. Her website,, offers ideas and tips for parish volunteers.
Carla helped to establish the Community Garden and 4-H Club at St. Patrick’s in Youngstown and enjoys horseback riding and gardening in her spare time.
In her “pre-church” life, she spent 17 years working in social services. She and her husband, Bob, have been married for 28 years and have an angelic dog and an unruly horse.

Jim Merhaut
Jim Merhaut is a ministry consultant, writer, teacher, and relationship coach. He holds a Master of Science degree in Religious Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. He is an author and co-author of several books and dozens of other publications, including the award-winning book, Your Catholic Family: Simple Ways to Share the Faith at Home. Jim’s most recent book is Gratitude Journal: A Journey of Transformation.
He was also the principal writer and project coordinator for Families on a Mission: A Family Service and Mission Experience.
Jim is a 26-year veteran in Church ministry having worked in parish, diocesan, Catholic school, university and retreat center settings.
He most recently served as the Project Coordinator for Lifelong Faith Formation Services at the Center for Ministry Development and the President and CEO of Villa Maria Education & Spirituality Center.
Jim has offered keynotes, retreats and workshops around the country, specializing in family spirituality, lifelong faith formation, and ministry leadership. Along with his publishing and speaking ministries, he offers coaching services to ministry teams and married couples.
Jim is the Founder and Director of Spiritual Help for You - a place for you to find encouragement and support for your spiritual journey.
On the side, he is a professional musician and recording artist with JD Eicher and the Goodnights.
Jim and his wife, Debbie, have five children and reside in Ohio where they enjoy vegetable gardening, raising small livestock, and pursuing a simple lifestyle.

Families On A Mission:  St Patrick's Youngstown


Please join St. Patrick parishioners who will volunteer at Youngstown area agencies and nursing homes. Service projects will include cleaning, crafting, repairing, playing bingo, and being present in our community.

When: Saturday, July 13. 2013

Time: 9:00am - 2:00pm (lunch will be provided)

Where:           Starting point - St. Patrick’s Social Hall

1. One team will work with Youngstown Litter Control cleaning up two freeway entrance / exits.2. Two teams will work with Interfaith Home Maintenance at two sites…one involving installing new doors; one involving some house painting.3. One team will clean, scrape and paint the vintage iron railing near the new Tyler Building in downtown Youngstown on Front Street.4. One team will work with the City Park Department at one of the city parks…will mostly be clean up and litter control.5. One team will help prep our social hall for Vacation Bible School.6. One team will visit and assist with BINGO at Greenbriar Nursing Home.7. One team will work to remove trash, clean and paint a storage area at OH WOW! Children’s Museum downtown.8. One team will work at the Dorothy Day House near Saint Elizabeth Hospital….work will involve inside house cleaning and outside gardening. Plan to attend the largest, three-day fair in Northern Portage County where you’ll enjoy delicious food and find family fun for all ages. St. Joseph’s Ox Roast Fair in Mantua begins on Friday, July 19th, at 6:00 to 11:30 p.m., Saturday, July 20th, from 1:00 to 11:30 p.m., and Sunday, July 21st, from Noon to 10:00 p.m. The 50th Ox Roast Fair has plenty of fun to keep the whole family entertained including: a wide variety of Fair food favorites; live entertainment; air-conditioned dining hall; Friday night fireworks; the “Run of the Ox” 5K Run/Walk and 1M Fun Walk; an assortment of rides, games, contests and giveaways; main raffle prize drawings and hourly progressive drawings each day plus 50/50 and several specialty raffles, souvenir T-shirts & hats; tractor, truck and semi pulls; trade booths; indoor casino with instant bingo; security; handicap accessibility; clean grounds and much, much more!

     The Ox Roast Fair will offer a variety of live entertainment, music and fun again this year. Fireworks are back and will delight fair-goers on Friday night. The fair’s 2013 Entertainment Schedule includes: "Real Deal Blues Band", a hard driving electric blues band on Friday playing music from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.; on Saturday jazz & Dixieland at it’s best will be featured by the “River City Jazz Band" from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and “A Tough Act to Follow” with Special Guests “So Be It” takes the stage from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. offering classic rock & more; check out the contemporary music of “Aimee Grace” in the Beer Garden from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday and The King is Back with "Stelvis & The Graceland Band" performing from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. You don’t want to miss Ox Roast Idol 2013 - three fun-filled days of selection of Karaoke Contestants with the Finals Competition 8:00-9:00 p.m. on Sunday. All contestants and the three top winners to be selected from all song slips filled out on each day of the Fair (three individuals & one wild card entry each day). All Wild Card contestants to be chosen from all entry slips right before the finals. Total of 12 contestants will compete in the finals for the title of Ox Roast Idol. Entry fee of $3.00 per song slip is required. Back again this year is an “I Sang At Ox Idol” t-shirt available for $10.00 which includes the entry fee. The three most lucky and possibly talented performers will win $50 - 3rd, $100 - 2nd, and $200 - Grand Prize. Will it be you?!

Back by popular demand is the “Run of the Ox” 5K Run/Walk that will take place on Saturday morning, July 20th beginning at 8:00 a.m. from the St. Joseph Parish parking lot on an out & back course down Bowen Road. New this year is a 1M Fun Walk that takes place on St. Joseph property. Registration is $16.00 per participant with pre-registration by July 16th or $20.00 the day of the race beginning at 7:00 a.m. Awards will be given to the top 3 overall and the top 3 in the following age groups: 11 & under, 12-15, 16-19, 20-29,30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over.            For those Catholics who would like to attend services, St. Joseph’s offers a 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday and 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Masses on Sunday. There will not be parking fees for those attending Mass.
