Director Named for Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Life

           Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., Bishop of Youngstown, has named David Schmidt the Director of thediocesan Office of Pro-Life, Marriage and Family Ministry, effective December 2, 2013.

           Mr. Schmidt, a native of Warren, Ohio, graduated from South Range High School in North Lima. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus. After studying theology at Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati, he taught religion at Our Lady of Angels High School there.

        Mr. Schmidt served as youth ministry director at Holy Family Parish in Poland and Our Lady of Peace Parish in Canton. While completing his Master of Pastoral Studies with the Loyola University Institute for Ministry Extension Program, New Orleans, he served as religious education director at Holy Spirit Parish in Uniontown.

       From 1995-1997 he was director of the Office of Marriage and Family Ministry for the Diocese of Youngstown. He then served as pastoral associate at Little Flower Parish in Canton. More recently, Mr. Schmidt served as pastoral associate at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Niles, and for the collaborating parishes of Regina Coeli in Alliance and St. Joseph Parish in Maximo.

        Mr. Schmidt also served on planning committees for various diocesan youth conventions, the diocesan Stewardship Commission and the diocesan Council for Catechesis.

       Mr. Schmidt and his wife, Laura, and their four children are involved with the Catholic Worker House of Hospitality in Alliance. They currently live in Canton.
