Pope Francis approved the miracle performed through the intercession of Venerable
Mother Maria Teresa Casini, Foundress of the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
on January 22, 2015. Mother Teresa Casini will be declared "Blessed" at a date yet to be
determined by Pope Francis. After beatification, the Church will look for a second miracle
before proceeding to canonization.

The miracle which was studied for authenticity both by a scientific and theological
commission determined that Jacob Sebest of Campbell, Ohio was healed through the
intercession of Mother Casini. Jacob who was hospitalized at the age of five was
diagnosed with irreversible brain trauma due to drowning. After 48 hours in an induced
coma and intense prayer to Mother Casini by Jacob's parents, family, pastor, parishioners,
the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and their Auxiliary Members, Jacob
showed voluntary movement on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, June 27, 2003. On the
following day, June 28th he awoke alert with absolutely no evidence of any brain trauma.

Mother Maria Teresa Casini was born in Frascati, Italy on October 27, 1864 and founded
the Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on February 2, 1894 in Grottaferrata, Italy.
Mother Casini died on April 3, 1937. Ten Oblate Sisters began to serve in the Diocese of
Youngstown on November 5, 1949. Today in the Diocese of Youngstown they teach, work
in parish ministry and staff two priest retirement homes.
