Today's Supreme Court's ruling which clears the way for same-sex marriage was expected
but unfortunate. Within the Judeo-Christian tradition, marriage is a permanent commitment
between one man and one woman. As Catholics, we believe that to be God's design for
humanity. In keeping with the Scriptures, therefore, the Church will continue to encourage
traditional marriage and support all families that want to grow in God's grace.

While the Church disagrees with same-sex marriage, it is important to reaffirm that
disagreement about an issue is not disrespect of a person. People with same-sex
attractions, as all people, are created and loved by God and every human life is valuable
from conception to natural death. Consequently, same-sex attracted people are and
always will be welcome in the churches of the Diocese of Youngstown, where the saving
words of Jesus Christ can be heard every day.
