The Most Reverend George V. Murry, S.J., Bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown, has
appointed Reverend John-Michael Lavelle, D.Min. to the position of Director of the Annual
Bishop's Appeal for Catholic Charities and Church for the Diocese of Youngstown.

and the pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Niles, positions he will retain with
this additional appointment.

Father Lavelle is a graduate of Youngstown State University with a bachelor's degree in
elementary education; St. Vincent Seminary, Latrobe with masters' degrees in divinity
and religious education; and St. Mary Seminary, Cleveland with a doctorate in ministry,
focusing on church stewardship and parish revitalization.

He was appointed pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, Ravenna in 2003 and Our
Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Niles in 2012. From 2005-2011 he served as Pastoral
Director of CTNY, the Catholic Television Network of Youngstown. In 2012 he was
appointed Director of Advancement for the Diocesan Office of Catholic Charities.

Father Lavelle previously served as president of the board of directors of Catholic
Charities. Serving Portage and Stark Counties; a member of the board of directors of
the Diocese of Youngstown Catholic Charities Corporation; chair of the Diocesan
Catechetical Commission; and chair of the Diocesan Stewardship Commission.

"I am very grateful for the confidence Bishop Murry has placed in me to appoint me to
this new position. During my time as a priest in the Diocese of Youngstown, I have
been fortunate to work closely with Catholic Charities and have always been
impressed by the generosity and support shown by the people of God throughout our
six counties. Their overwhelming concern for those in need has always encouraged
me in my ministry as a priest and as an advocate for the poor and needy. With this
new position, I hope to invite more people throughout our diocesan church to join in
answering the call of Pope Frances to 'go out into the streets' and lift up our brothers
and sisters."
