Bishop George V. Murry, S.J. will celebrate two diocesan Masses for Life this month, inviting all to pray for a greater respect for life at every stage. The first Mass for Life will take place on Saturday, January 16 at 12:00 noon at St. Paul Parish, 241 S. Main St., North Canton. The second Mass for Life will take place on Sunday, January 24 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St., Youngstown and will be preceded by a Holy Hour for Life from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m.

At each Mass, expectant mothers, fathers and their families will be invited to receive a blessing for their unborn babies. The "Blessing of a Child in the Womb" was created to encourage prayer and recognition of the precious gift of the child in the womb, and to foster respect for human life within society. In addition, there will be a blessing of pilgrims attending the March for Life in Washington D.C. which is held each January 22nd to remember the 1973 Supreme decision Roe v. Wade.

Following each Mass for Life there will be a reception including an "Expo" of respect life information. All are welcome to attend. No reservations are necessary. Donations are accepted and appreciated.

The Masses for Life corresponds with "9 Days for Life" called for by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. On January 22 our nation will remember the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. Since that tragic decision, more than 55 million children's lives have been lost to abortion, and the lives of millions of their parents have been shattered. In prayerful recognition, "Nine Days of Prayer, Penance and Pilgrimage" will take place January 16-24. To participate, go to www.9daysforlife.com to download an app, or arrange to receive text messages or e-mails for each day of the 9 Days for Life novena.
