The Catholic Campaign for Human Development has awarded one Youngstown organization with its 2016-2017 national grant.

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development funds programs in communities across the United States where people living in poverty join together to identify problems, make decisions, and find ways to improve their lives and neighborhoods.

These groups and activities reflect Catholic moral and social teaching on human life and dignity.

The 2016 national grant recipient is Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods (ACTION). ACTION received $35,000. ACTION is a grassroots community organization which seeks to unite faith groups, schools, neighborhood organizations, tenant councils, and other non-profits to work for social justice. Its mission is to create a safer community, improve the quality of education, provide a voice for young people, support the rights if immigrants, and strengthen communities in Mahoning Valley (Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana Counties).
