The Office of Lay Ministry Formation is offering a course titled “Service with Christ: A Door to Mercy Through Service Learning” for those interested or involved in social justice ministry themselves or with the youth and young adults they serve.  The call of all the baptized to serve others helps us to be a presence of God’s love and mercy to the world.  Service-learning is a way to better incorporate faith and learning into service experiences.

The course will meet on the third Tuesdays of the month from 7:00-9:00PM from September through May at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist Social Hall in Canton.  Participants are also asked to commit to at least one year of weekly/biweekly service with an approved social service agency.

The course sessions will be an opportunity to pray in community, reflect on the experience of service, and learn more about and apply the themes of Catholic Social Teaching.  In addition, principles and practices of service-learning will be shared to empower participants to better incorporate service experiences into catechetical programs at the parish.  This course is great for Confirmation and RCIA teams as well as those working in social justice ministries.
