Rev. David J. Bergner, S.D.S., Vicar for Social Concerns, Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, announces Bishop George V. Murry’s appointment of Rachel A. Hrbolich as Diocesan Director of Catholic Charities, effective February 1, 2017.  In this position, Ms. Hrbolich will provide administrative oversight to the Catholic Charities affiliate agencies serving the Diocese of Youngstown, which include Catholic Regional Agency, serving Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana Counties; Catholic Charities of Portage and Stark Counties, serving its two counties; Catholic Charities of Ashtabula which serves its area county-wide; and Catholic Charities Housing Opportunities which serves the entire six-county diocese.

Ms. Hrbolich will succeed Mrs. Meg Andersen who recently announced her retirement after 33 years of service.  Ms. Hrbolich has served Catholic Charities for 22 years, the last 13 years as Associate Director of Social Services.  In addition to holding Bachelor of Arts degree from Notre Dame College, Cleveland, and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Akron, she completed a program on Mission-based Leadership and Organizational Development at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana.  In her current role with Catholic Charities, she manages most of Catholic Charities’ internal and external communications.  Her contributions in this field have been recognized nationally by her appointment to the Development and Communications Steering Committee of Catholic Charities USA in Alexandria, VA.

“I am both honored by this recognition of my service to the Diocese of Youngstown, and motivated to advance the mission of Catholic Charities into the future,” Ms. Hrbolich states.  “I look forward to supporting and promoting the Catholic Charities affiliate agencies, who represent the hands and feet of Christ in the community; working with the affiliate boards and staffs to find creative and effective solutions for the challenges we face; strengthening relationships with diocesan parishes, who support and affirm our efforts to care for the poor; and helping to ensure good stewardship of all resources entrusted to us.”

Father David Bergner adds, “Ms. Hrbolich brings to her new and expanded leadership role not only her vast experience in social work and knowledge of Northeastern Ohio but also excellent people skills and communications background which will enhance all we do in the communities where Catholic Charities serves.”

Ms. Hrbolich and her husband, Paul Bajnok, reside in Newton Falls and are members of St. Mary and St. Joseph Parish.  They have one daughter.
