Bishop George V. Murry, S.J. has announced that Fr. David Bergner, S.D.S, Vicar for Social Concerns, has decided to retire and return to his religious community, the Salvatorians. Father Bergner has served the Diocese of Youngstown for two years.  “I am grateful to Fr. Bergner for his dedication to the poor among us.” Bishop Murry said, “and I wish him a peaceful retirement.” Fr. Bergner, a licensed pilot, hopes to help with Masses throughout the Caribbean”

The Bishop also announced that Rachel Hrbolich has been appointed interim Director of Social Concerns.  Rachel will continue in her responsibilities as Diocesan Director of Catholic Charities. 

Ms. Hrbolich was appointed to her current position in February 2017.  She has served Catholic Charities for 22 years, and was appointed to the position of Diocesan Director of Catholic Charities in February.  In addition to holding a Bachelor of Arts degree from Notre Dame College, Cleveland, and a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Akron, she completed a program on Mission-based Leadership and Organizational Development at the University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana.  In her current role with Catholic Charities, she provides administrative oversight to Catholic Charities affiliate agencies serving the Diocese of Youngstown, which include Catholic Charities Regional Agency, serving Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties; Catholic Charities of Portage and Stark Counties; Catholic Charities of Ashtabula County and Catholic Charities Housing Opportunities which serves the entire six-county diocese.

A search for a new Director of Social Concerns will begin in a short time.
