2004 Eagle of the Cross Awards Recipients

The following high school juniors and seniors were honored at a Mass, dinner and ceremony by Bishop Tobin and the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry on April 18th at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Youngstown.

We congratulate these young people who have been fine Christian Witnesses in their communities. We also thank the adults who took the time to nominate them, and the judges for selecting this year's Eagle of the Cross Awardees.

Jack Carr
Using the talents God has given him, Jack is an inspiration to all who meet him. Jack takes great pride in all he does and it shows in his reverence at Mass, peer tutoring, and his gentle kind words to the candidates for Confirmation. He has been a delegate to NCYC and Diocesan Congress on Vocations.

He has attended NCYC, Diocesan Youth Conference. Cory's goodness and giftedness qualify him for this award.

Maria Garofalo
While Maria's most impressive quality is her respect and care for others, Maria is a fun and optimistic person who shares her beliefs and faith with others. Her sincerity and genuine faith is expressed in her participation at St. Joseph's hospice and her servant attitude includes openness to completing whatever task needs done.

Troy Gawlak
Troy is a reflective and resourceful leader; a dynamic breath of tomorrow. He learned Polish in order to lector once a month in that language. A true friend of the Hispanics, he was essential in the formation of the Hispanic faith community.
