BRIEF HISTORY
Sacred Heart of Mary Parish was founded in 1833 by French families in the Harrisburg area. Father Matthias Wuerz became Scared Heart of Mary's founding pastor. In 1847 the original small brick church was built; the present brick church used today was erected in 1876. The present rectory was built in 1923. A convent was built in 1957 for the sisters and is now used as a Parish Center. The new parish school has been in operation since the fall of 1926 and continues to operate today. The new hall, located at 8900 Columbus Road, was completed in 1962; an addition was built in 1964 to add more school classrooms and more space for our school cafeteria. Sacred Heart of Mary Church has grown from a few parish families to 415 parish families who are now being led by Sacred Heart of Mary's Pastor, Reverend William B. Kraynak.
