Rowan, president and chief executive officer of Humility of Mary Health Partners (HMHP), Youngstown, has accepted the position of Chief Operating Officer for St. John Health System, a grouping of 10 hospitals with 20,000 employees, located in Detroit. Rowan will begin his new position in November. During his 3 1/2-year tenure as president of HMHP, the organization has added more than 500 employees, reversed a $10 million deficit into an $18 million gain, won numerous quality and service awards, and embarked on an $80 million series of improvements, all designed to make the health system the Mahoning Valley’s preferred regional supplier of health care services. “Michael has served Humility of Mary Health Partners and the people of this Valley very well,” notes Germaine Bennett, current chair of the organization’s board of trustees. “He has been a major force in our recent success and we will all miss him – knowing though, that his new position offers a wonderful challenge.” St. John Health Center is part of the Catholic health ministry Ascension Health – extending beyond Detroit to 14 states and with a total employment of 87,000. The mission of the system is to promote physical, mental, social and spiritual health for all in need of care. Humility of Mary Health Partners – St. Elizabeth Health Center, St. Joseph Health Center, HM Home Care, HM Home Therapies, HM Home Medical Equipment, The Assumption Village and Humility House – employs more than 5,500 employees and physicians. HMHP is the area’s leading health care provider and a member of Catholic Healthcare Partners – one of the nation’s largest providers of health care services. Prior to joining HMHP, Rowan held positions at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, Fla., Memorial Medical Center, Savannah, Ga., and St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. A Toledo native, Rowan is a graduate of Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, and has a master of health services administration degree from the University of Michigan.
