New Ursuline Sisters leadership team elected to 6-year term

The Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown have elected a new Leadership Team, who will serve from June 2, 2002, until 2008.

Sister Regina Rogers is the new general superior, who will be assisted by four councillors: Sisters Mary Alyce Koval (first councillor), Mary McCormick, Darla Vogelsang and Therese Ann Rich. The new Leadership Team follows the 1996-2002 team of Sister Nancy Dawson, general superior, and councillors Sisters Regina Rogers, Charlotte Italiano, Gertrude Paris and Therese Ann Rich.

SISTER REGINA ROGERS, assistant principal at Youngstown Ursuline High School and first councillor of the outgoing leadership team for her community, attended Struthers St. Nicholas School, Poland Holy Family School and Poland High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in Education from Youngstown State University in 1972, a master’s from Catholic University of America in 1979, and a master’s from the University of Notre Dame in 1988. She entered religious life on Sept. 24, 1967, from Holy Family Parish. A daughter of Carolyn (Delisio) Rogers and the late Philip E. Rogers, Sister Regina, has one sister, Karen DeSantis of Dunedin, Fla.; one brother, Father Philip Rogers, pastor of Struthers St. Nicholas Parish; and a deceased sister and brother, Margaret Matune and Mark Rogers.

As general superior, Sister Regina will serve as president of the Beatitude House Corp. and the Ursuline Center Corp.

SISTER MARY ALYCE KOVAL, principal of Boardman St. Charles School since 1991, and a member of the Ursuline Sisters Vocation Council and Formation Team, attended Youngstown SS. Peter and Paul School and Ursuline High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University in 1970, a master’s in educational administration from the University of Dayton in 1977, and a master of arts in ministry from Ursuline College, Cleveland, in 1997. She entered religious life on Sept. 12, 1965, from Youngstown SS. Peter and Paul Parish. A daughter of the late John and Margaret (Volk) Koval, Sister Mary Alyce has two brothers, Dr. John Koval of Poland and Robert Koval of El Paso, Texas; one sister, Nancy Arreola of Santa Rosa, Calif.; two nieces and nephews.

SISTER MARY McCORMICK, assistant professor of Systematic Theology at St. Mary Seminary and Graduate School of Theology in Cleveland, attended Youngstown St. Christine School and Ursuline High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University, a master’s in theology from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pa., a master’s in religious education from Loyola University, New Orleans, and a doctorate in theology from Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y. She entered the Ursuline community on Jan. 19, 1975, from Austintown St. Joseph Parish. A daughter of J. Martina (Finnerty) McCormick and the late John P. McCormick, Sister Mary has one sister, J. Martina Simon of Poland; and one brother, John P. McCormick of Poland.

SISTER DARLA J. VOGELSANG, pastoral associate at Youngstown Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, attended Poland Elementary School, Boardman St. Charles, Hubbard St. Patrick, and Ursuline High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University in 1964, a master’s from St. Francis College, Fort Wayne, Ind., in 1973, and a master’s in pastoral studies from Loyola University of Chicago in 1988. She entered the Ursuline community on Sept. 4, 1960, from Hubbard St. Patrick Parish. A daughter of George and Kathleen Rowlands, Sister Darla has two brothers, Donald J. Vogelsang of Uniontown, Pa., and Lawrence W. Vogelsang of Tujunga, Calif.; and a sister, Linda L. Patterson of Tampa, Fla.

SISTER THERESE ANN RICH, executive director of the Ursuline Center and councillor of the outgoing leadership team for her community, attended Conneaut St. Mary School and Ashtabula St. John the Baptist High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Youngstown State University in 1969, a master’s in religious studies from John Carroll University, Cleveland, in 1985, and a certificate in pastoral studies from Loyola University of New Orleans in 1989. She entered religious life on Sept. 12, 1966, from Conneaut St. Mary Parish. She has served as a bereavement minister for MVI Hospice and a peer support visitor for the National Multiply Sclerosis Society. A daughter of Jay and Catherine (White) Rich, Sister Therese Ann has one sister, Cathy Loomis of Conneaut; and one brother, Paul Rich of Walton Hills, Ohio.
